Background and History

AMTAC Laboratories Ltd
Providing product and material testing, for quality and regulatory compliance, in the engineering and consumer product sectors.

ORIGINS

AMTAC's origin extends to 1885 when the Manchester Chamber of Commerce founded one of the World's first 'modern' test and certification organisations to support the massive growth in textile production in the North West of England.

Development over the next 100 years included comprehensive testing facilities for consumer products in general, including electrical, toys, textiles, apparel, furniture and sports goods. In the late 1960's a facility was specifically developed to provide testing services, under contract to the UK Department of Health, for the inspection and testing of dispensed medical devices. In 1983 the Chamber of Commerce Laboratory merged with Altrincham Laboratories (est. 1965), one of the UK's foremost independent metallurgical testing facilities. AMTAC Laboratories Ltd was established, creating the nucleus of the AMTAC Group of Companies.
