ISO 9001 QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

WHAT IS ISO 9001?

ISO 9000 is a series of standards for Quality Management Systems. Every year in the UK, thousands of organisations and businesses lose revenue and opportunities due to either poor quality product or services, or through the inefficient management of the business and lack of customer awareness.

ISO 9001 is globally recognised as the mark of assurance for quality, applicable to both manufacturing and service industries, including public sector and local government.

The ISO 9000:1994 family of standards for Quality Management Systems has been revised and published as ISO 9000:2000.

ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION

Once a company has completed the implementation of an ISO 9001 quality management system which has been running for at least 4 months and completed a full systems internal audit and management review process, they are ready to begin making enquiries into choosing a certification body that can undertake the third party assessment and certification services that will complete the process of obtaining registration to ISO 9001.

AMTAC Certification Services is regulated by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and accredited to undertake third party assessment and certification services to ISO 9001.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 quality management systems help companies improve their business efficiency through the implementation of good management practice including planning for productivity and resource requirements aiding in the reduction of waste and by continuously improving the business through the setting and monitoring of targets and objectives.

Companies with a management system that has been third party (independently) audited and registered to ISO 9001 will also benefit commercially from an increase in business, due to being able to provide evidence of the ability to deliver quality goods or services to a high standard, on a consistent basis.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT ISO 9001?

ISO 9000 is a model of a quality management system that is designed to guide companies in applying commonsense, good management practice in a framework that is flexible to meet individual companies needs. This flexibility is to ensure that companies implementing ISO 9001 can create their own quality management system that reflects actual business practices, rather than simply creating procedures to meet the requirements of the standard and then changing company practices to comply. An effective quality management system is one where the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard have been used to improve the existing informal management system. This is achieved by ensuring that the system reflects, in all areas, what the processes are that are undertaken and then applying ISO 9001 requirements with a view to improvement.
